What is the Cycle to Work Scheme?
Introduced in 1999 to promote healthier commuting and reduce environmental impact, the Cycle to Work Scheme lets your employer provide you with a bike and safety equipment as a tax-free benefit — making it easier and more affordable to cycle to work.

Who Manages the Scheme?
The scheme can be run directly by your employer or through a third-party provider. Some of the most popular providers include Cyclescheme, Cycle2Work, Green Commute Initiative, Vivup, My Benefits World and Go Geta. These providers issue a certificate which, once approved by your employer, can be redeemed with us for a bike and safety equipment.

How Does It Work?
The scheme works by allowing you to sacrifice part of your salary before tax to cover the cost of the bike and equipment. This reduces the amount of tax and National Insurance you pay, and the cost is spread over monthly payments straight from your pay — making it more affordable than buying outright.

Your employer determines the maximum value for the bike and the length of the agreement. These limits are typically based on an affordability assessment, so it's worth checking with your employer before you come in to choose your bike.
